Default Diesel Guys inside need help!!!

Here's my dillema, i was driving my truck about a week ago to northstar dragway to watch the races. On the way up from about ft.worth on my truck seems to have no boost, no power and wont' downshift at highspeeds. Get to the track and there is oil all over the tailgate (came out of some pickup tube from valve cover not exhaust) so i call a wrecker and get it home. Patriot prolly has pictures! It's a dodge 04.5 diesel by the way so flame on but it's what i got so im stuck with it.
Pulled the head off to reveal no head damage visible, no piston damage visible. So i call some diesel techs i know, they come over and see that the piston walls are Dusted. From what i understand its like sandblasting your cylinder walls, very shiny, cross hatches still visible but very shiny. Rings are prolly shot too but won't know till i get them out and wont do that till i have the rebuild kit. Sooo i work in brick sales which requires me to drive on constuction sites all day and our brick yard is like a sandbowl mixed with mortar mix and concrete. Has anybody else run into this problem? Which filter should i go back with, cuz stock ain't cuttin it? Sorry for the long post, trying to head off any obvious questions

Thanks
Josh

Have you had an oil change recent? If so maybe it has the wrong weight. If not check your oil water sep light. If it is on then drain it .If you have a check engine light on then it could be a factory issue. All diesels run on 15 w 40 some do require additives. You may want to check your oil level. If somebody has borrowed your truck recently ,remove the gas cap and see if it smells like gas instead of diesel.Just trying to help.

I don't see sand getting through an air filter, that is what it is for. In fact, the stock type filters block even more particles than performance filters do. That is what makes them more restrictive in performance.

Check for leaks around the intake tube past the filter, like cracks in the intake tube couplers and tubes themselves. Maybe the seal around the top of the filter to the airbox. It sounds like your engine is taking in unfiltered air.

Maybe that dust is actually the turbo "blade". Check your turbo. The seals could have went out and the turbo might have taken a dump.

So you had oil coming out of the crank case breather? Did you check your oil level? If you have an injector go bad it will fill the crank case with diesel to the point that the engine won't hardly run, no boost, no power, that type thing.

your rings are shot man. compression was pushing oil out of the pcv. stick the stock aircleaner as well. however check inside the intercooler tubes and look for traces of sand. one of two things happened, your injectors were sticking open and ate the rings or the sand ate them. get ready to spend some money too, HPCR pistons cost around $275ea. pm me if you want any more info

Thanks for all the replys guys! My oil was changed recently about 2000 miles ago with the air filter, fuel filter, and oil filter, something i do every 7000 mi. I have to agree with nineball on the air leak, cause the turbo looks and spins good. We're going to put a dial indicator on before i rebuild it. Prolly will stick with the stock filter cuz i just don't see the advantage of buying aftermarket to flow better if it lets those fine dust particles by. Luckily i know a service manager for Peterbuilt who can get me parts cheap so that's not a problem. I just have to do this **** in my driveway cause i can't afford the 6k they want to put in the shop and keep for 2 months. Thanks for taking the time to help guys it's really appreciated!
