Default Earthquake in Cali.............

Whats funny about this is I just read the Double Parked thread and one of the last posts is about not seeing any tornadoes..........guess they forgot about earthquakes.......

The earthquake itself isnt funny though and Im glad no one was killed. They said something about 27 aftershocks and counting.

They say they are glad they don't live here because the sky opens up and swallows people whole, we say we're glad we don't live there because the ground opens up and swallows people whole. Everywhere you go there is always something of the elements to affect one's life. Thank you god if nobody was hurt, they should wish the same on us when we get out twisters.

(and don't say the DOUBLE PARK word here, it gets ugly in epic proportions and soon enough everybody gets banned/thread closed! Shhh!).

The USGS records an average of 50 earthquakes everyday in the US. Many are remote or are small, but there are thousands annually.

I seriously wonder what an earthquake feels like.........I remember reading about some company that can simulate an earthquake to prepare you when a real one actually happens. I think I saw it on some show on TV.

California is 1 earthquake away from breaking off into the pacific and ridding America of a bunch of looneys. The only problem is it requires an 8.X mag earthquake or higher to fracture it right off the continent.

It will happen, but when is the question, and our tectonic understanding is still questionable at best.

ever since the 70-80's thousands of USGS workers worked all over cali expecting an earthquake recurrence interval of ~20 years, and expected a huge quake in '88. They were wrong, reminded once again that all of the workings are random and to predict stuff like quakes is really hard and rare.
