Default need to delete EGR..need help.

Hey guys...I'm really wanting to ditch all of the EGR junk off my 2000 trans am.....it really makes the engine bay look crowded and messy....can I just un plug the EGR and disconnect all of the emissions hoses and the elctric air pump and block off the egr ports on the intake and the exhaust manifold..I know it will set an engine light...but will it cause the car to run bad? I don't want to loose any performance or gas mileage....can someone locally with LS! edit or something delete the EGR stuff off my ECM for me so I don't get an engine light?

It'll run the same but you will get a light. Sure looks a lot better under the hood though. My .02.

are you sure it will run the same? all I will have is a check engine light? I thought it would throw the computter into a closed loop or possibly put it into limp mode? is that true?

Nope, runs the same. Actually better without that hot exhaust going into your intake through an obstructive EGR tube. Also losing 10 lbs of worthless crap off the front end is good. That stuff is all there for the first few minutes after start-up to help with emissions(I believe).

Just need to have someone turn off that light. Mine was on for a few months until I did my mods and got a tune anyway.

Do it. Do it now! Bwahahaha!

BTW, find the write-up on this just to be safe- there is a tiny little vacuum line back there (behind the intake) you need to plug.

The air system is there to inject air into the intake to burn with the extra fuel to warm up the cats quickly.

EGR is for highway cruising. Recirculating exhaust gas takes up space in the combustion chamber, essentially lowering your displacement and requiring less fuel. It doesn't work that well though.

cliff notes: your car will be fine, perhaps run better, weigh less, and make the engine bay cleaner and easier to work on.

a 1 3/8 freeze plug will work excellent to plug the hole
just tap it in about 3/16 with a large socket like a 24mm
will never leak, works great
