Default I need advice

My son turns 4 in September and hes my whole world. Hes not doing very well these days, and I think alot of it has to do with his home life. His mom and I split a little over a year ago and she got custody. The last few weeks weve been seeing some problems arise. I need to find the best custody attorney in DFW that isnt going to wany an entire years salary to get started. Im on disability right now due to an injury, but Im going back to work soon. Every dime I have is going into getting him back, does anyone know anyone good you can recommend?

Your going to have to prove to the judge that she is an unfit mother in some way shape or form to switch yourself to primary custodian. Also it will cost a few thousand to get things going and every time you step foot into that court room is gonna cost you a pretty penny. Have you considered a therapist of some sort for your son to help understand what is going on in his little brain? As long as he knows you love him that is the best thing you can do for him in this situation as it sits. I would sit down with a lawyer for an hour or so and see what can be done.

He's 4, he's angry and doesn't understand what's going on around him and lashing out at his mother, doesn't mean she's a bad mother or mistreating him.

Chances are slim to none that you will get custody, this is Texas and unless she's been busted for being a hooker your pretty much going to be wasting your money. Sad but true.

I know this sounds strange, but did you sit down and talk to the mom? Just see if she even wants to raise your son. I did the same thing with my ex-wife and I have custody of my Daughter and guardianship of my step-daughter. I am a single dad in the Army, so it is a rare occurance for this to happen. I waived all child support from her, but I have my kids.

It might be worth the try. I wish I could give you the magic answer as I know how hard it is. If she doesn't agree, just be who you are and stay true and be there for your son as much as you can. He will see this with time and when he is older and can make his own decisions, he will make the right one.

Also remember not to bad mouth her around him. Kids need both parents even if they are not together. He has his vision of his mother no matter how bad she really might be.

Just my $.02 hope it helps.

I have a cousin who's ex-wife is an in and out of work drinker and drug user who has attempted suicide. After numerous incidents, she still has custody. My cousin has talked to a couple of different good attorneys about taking her to court in an attempt to get full custody. They want a ton of money and have told him, "you'd have a 50/50 chance at best" to gain custody.
Unless they get arrested for something, you pretty much (as a father) haven't got a chance in the world. It sucks for the good dads out there in unfortunate situations.

Ive tried to talk to her before, and if it wasnt for her mother, I think I could get custody. Shes the type that shell suffer just to keep me from having something and she doesnt care who it hurts, such as the house she cant pay for, the car she cant pay for, and the 69 Firbird in my sig that she hasnt made a payment on in 13 months. She would rather force him to go to school screaming than let him come to my house while Im not working. I have a place Im gonna try to take him to this weekend, and the only hope I have is a therapist sees hes in a bad environment.
