Default Dallas area peeps in here please

I have a friend who really wants me to move down there, and I'm starting to think the opportunities might make it worth my consideration.

What are some pros/cons of the area.

I'm used to small towns (think Texarkana and smaller) so that would definitely be a big change for me I know. I also like playing guitar and being stuck in an apartment complex might kinda suck for that. Are there lots of cheap rent houses available like in college towns?

The obvious ups are better opportunity for employment and that there actually seems to be a huge car scene down there. That would be nice as I'd like to have more friends who are into cars and stuff.

What are some other ups and downs here?

I own my own house and the neighbors still complain about the guitar. But then again I can't play worth a damn either. I live in Fort Worth and the traffic sucks and seems even worse in Dallas. That's really the only complaint I have though. Anything you need is close and you definatley wont run out of things to do.

Dallas traffic is pretty lousy, so if you move here start learning the highways the best you can and work down to the main streets so you know how to get to one point to another the fastest way possible to save what time you can during travel.

Besides that work is always just around the corner (whatever you find). Greenville (uptown) for bars or addison to go drinking. Like you said, pretty big car scene here, and I hope you like the cowboys!

If you're use to small town and want to be in the metroplex, I'd advise staying on the Ft.Worth side of things. I grew up in Houston and lived in Tulsa so I've had bad to decent daily traffic to compare. With that said, I avoid Dallas if possible. The worse traffic in Ft. Worth/Tarrant Couty is up around Keller and over through the 121/183 corridore. Live on the south or west side and it isn't too bad. It's worse than Tulsa, but not like Dallas or Houston.

Yeah, I live in west Fort Worth by Eagle Mountain Lake and traffic is not that bad yet but it's growing. I work in the Keller/North Richland Hills area and the traffic around there is terrible, especially on 820 east around 183. It's jam packed any time of day. I used to play ice hockey back when the only rinks around here to play at were in the Dallas area. I hated the traffic and I'm sure it's even worse now. I have to go to the Frisco area every now and then for work and man has it grown out there. Dallas is nice but be prepared for an *** load of people!

And as far as wanting to be in a house... just buy one in Highland Park... I hear they're pretty cheap!

I'm really not wanting to do this actually

How helpful would a cheap Garmin be for getting around?

Bleh...prolly have to make 100% sure I have uninsured motorist coverage on my insurance too since certain problems are likely worse there than they are here (which is pretty damn bad)
