Default Differential/rear end questions

Well the t/a has 126k on it...I notice that there is a humming coming from the rear of the car ever since I bought it a month ago..I never had a chance to look at it but I suspect bad wheel bearings possibly or low on differential fluid...anyways I'm goint to tear into in on monday and was wondering what is the best weight and type of differential fluid I should use? the car is a 2000 trans am m6...

Happens often in the 10 bolts, do a search for 'rear whine' or similar. Could need an adjustment or pinion nut tightening I believe.

If its already making noise, I doubt anything you do will make any difference. You will have to do what I did and find a replacement. Find out what ratio you have and call High Performance Salvage near San Antonio. He sells complete used rearends for $250.
