welding stainless? did a search couldn't find a definitive answer
I'm wanting to weld some t-304 stainless exhaust pieces. Im wanting to know if I can accomplish this w/ my millermatic 180 and the 75/25 mix I have.
I think that ER308SI is the wire I might need, but couldn't really find an definitive answer on the gas mix.
the project is basically reworking some stainless exhaust tips.
Any help is appreciated.

Yes you can use that gas mix to weld SS. Alot of people use tri mix gas on SS but the only real advantage it has is the color it leaves the weld. Yes 308 wire is for stainless to stainless welding. You may want to practice on some scrap pieces first becuase too much heat or too much gas can cause some serious issues when welding SS.
trimix is the best to use for stainless, but not completely necessary. As for wire, and 308L wire will do.

so why use trimix or argon over the 75/25? and whats the advantages and disadvantages of both
sorry just asking never done it, but this is probably gonna be my only stainless project, in other words i really want to just use the 75/25 so i dont have to go out and buy the tri mix for one small project. if it comes to that I think i will just have someone do it for me.
