Default Re-tapping a hole

I have a 1.25"ID titanium tube with 24tpi threads. Can I just retap it to 12tpi? I want it the same diameter just want it from 24tpi to 12 tpi

No, not withou using some type of insert. I'm not sure you can get anything to change the thread count that drastically. although, I've never had the occasion to do so, so i've never really looked into it.

i would helicoil it, you would need to find a helicoil the with 12 tpi inside thread that you want then you make the hole bigger tap it to the outside thread of the helicoil and the inside of the helicoil will be your 12 tpi. -tony-

you could helicoil but the helicoil kit for that size is $413... your better off starting over. plus you mention tube so your going to have to drill it out bigger for the helicoil tap.. dont know what wall size you would be left with.

btw what are you doing with this? and hope you got something with some power to put that tap in titanium
