Keeping engine up without k-member?

Keeping engine up without k-member? What is the best way to hold an engine up without the k-member? I've pulled the k-member before and just used a jack on the oil pan, but I have been thinking about changing the rod bolts now. What is the best way to keep the engine up while doing this without an engine hoist? Is it possible to remove the oil pan with a tubular k-member and install the bolts then? Thanks for any ideas!
Without a hoist it's going to be pretty tough to do. It may be easier to just drop the whole engine while your at it...especially if you're installing a new TC at the same time. Just a thought.
There are engine support fixtures, there not to pricey.
OTC makes a nice one (there expensive as tools go) for around $200.
4324 is the part # for the one that work for LS1 cars.
