Just bought in ground lift!
Yep...$250 on auction (the auctioneer is my uncle ), came out of a little shop in my area. Single center post...runs off an industrial air compressor. Should be nice! Any of you have one of these? Any tips/hints for the install?

I'm not very picky about what workshop environment i'm in however I will never use a single post inground lift and $250 get what you pay for. For $2000 you could get a 6,000 lbs two post lift, a good lift and pieace of mind.

$250.00 + busting your slab up + digging a big hole in the ground + pouring concrete in the hole + plumbing air to the lift at the bottom + repouring concrete where your slab was broken = well over the cost of a 2 post VERY UNIVERSAL lift.

Plumbing: Black pipe, mabey $30 with fittings and elbows.
Apparently he already has an air compressor, $0.
Concrete: Maby $100. Single posters don't need the thick, 3x3 slab of high PSI cement like 2 posters do.
I agree, 2 posts lifts are unbeatable, but for 95% of work a single post will work just fine. I worked in a shop for almost a year that had 1 2post and 1 single post, and there were VERY few (mabey 2 or 3) times where I couldn't do something on the single poster. Yes some things were more difficult, but almost never impossible. For a savings of about $1500+, how is it not worth it for him to put in a single post?

I didn't need to bust up my slab, because it hasn't been poured yet. That $250 included ALL of the things needed to hook it up, including the pipe. We got it installed this weekend, and it has no leaks. Obviously some of you don't understand that just because something sold below market value on an auction doesn't mean that it is crappy. The lift itself is less than 10 years old, and I was one of only two bidders on it. Personally, for what I paid, I couldn't be happier with it.

The single posters are nice for bodywork...
I worked in a bodyshop and they had one and it was awesome for sanding, and bodywork - heck even painting. You got a good deal.

Hey point me to the lifts that cost that amount when you can. I've been looking and can only find them for 2500.

I love getting deals like this.
Bartering for the excavation ... very cool.
Doing stuff on the cheap is very cool.
Now, build your self some heavy duty jack stands, one pole lift it, install jackstands, retract lift and thumb your nose at those $2K plus installation guys.

Hey, thanks for all the replies guys. Magyver, the lift was bought at a local sale here in Nebraska from a garage that was going out of business. I'm sure if you watch auction listings you could find a similar deal. Good luck!
