Fowler Dial Bore Gauge Has anyone used a Fowler dial bore gauge for engine building, I keep seeing them online since I am looking for one, I don't really have a super giant budget to spend so 50 bucks here and there makes a difference. Most of them say they are accurate to .0005 but that seems to high to me, can some machinist help me out here, if so what would be a better budget choice if there is any.
You can buy pretty decent quality tools affordably if you look. Most of the stuff sold in catalogs is the same stuff rebranded. There's a lot on ebay and you can look on craigslist. What kind of mics do you have? What other precision tools do you have?

Mitutoyo makes real nice bore gages. I have never had good luck with Fowler.

The difference in price is repeatability. If you don't have repeatability then you mind as well be using plasti gauge. I use Mitutoyo dial bore and Mitutoyo Micrometer, repeatable results every time.
