Welding with a generator?

Hey folks,
I have a question about welding with a generator. Im planning on getting a generator with a 240v outlet, since the garage that I keep my Z32 in only has one 120v outlet. I will probably be using a stick welder, since theyre cheap, and theyre what I weld best with. (poor college student..) Any advice/input?

depends on how much you want to spend if your just stick welding aka smaw welding you can get a cheap 110 buzz box for not a bad price

it really depends on the type of metal you plan on welding and the thickness. a simple 110v wire feed mig welder will be good enough for most jobs.

I've welded plenty of 1/4" with my 110 stick. Just v-grove it and make multiple passes. I bought a $100 dc inverter welder when I was in college and you wouldn't believe all the junk i've welded with it. Built multiple work benches, frames, exhaust, even a motorbicycle. JMO, never used a generator.
