The tool is designed to bend if not used properly. You MUST tap on the valve retainer to release the keepers before using the tool as described in the directions. Releasing the keepers is necessary before before using any valve spring compressor on an engine that has heat cycled many times. If the tool didn't bend when too much force is exerted, the stud's threads can strip or worse. For that reason we designed the tool to bend as a safety feature when excessive force is applied. The tool can be straightened by placing it on a concrete floor or anvil of a vise and striking with a heavy hammer. Even with a slight bend in the tool, it's functionality will not be affected.
