define economical....

to me $180 for a 3/8th impact that ACTUALLY works is great. look at sears, their black one with the red forward reverse buttons in back, is a relabeled ingersol rand. bad *** impact. takes the bolt off the crank pulley when the tank is full, gotta hit it a few times, but it still does it. sometimes they have some REAL killer sales buy one get one half off, i got the 3/8 impact and a $150 drill all for about 325 after 10% also (he took the 10% first THEN did the half off deal) bad ***.

If you want the best without paying an arm and a leg, the IR 2135(titanium) is hard to beat. Theres a vendor on ebay selling them for 199.

If thats too rich, Home depot has a Husky Pro (the black grip one, not red), that is strong as hell for 99 bucks. And i mean strong. Only downside to it, is its really slow, and really heavy.

The Inger 231 is without a dout one of the best you can get. Just spend the little extra for the power and abuse it can handle

IMO, one of the best deals out there on a quality impact is this Craftsman 1/2" drive:
http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/produ...id=00919905000

Its basically a rebadged IR 2131 and if you keep your eyes on the Craftsman Tool Days fliers you will sometimes find this Impact on sale - I think I saw it for $159 a few months ago. Also, for some reason, Sears seems to have great prices on some IR Impacts in their stores. I picked up an IR 2131QT for $179 about a year ago. The cheapest I could find it online was over $200 plus shipping.

Its basically a rebadged IR 2131, which will run you about $40 more retail. The best part is that if you keep your eyes on the Craftsman Tool Days fliers you will sometimes find this Impact on sale - I think I saw it for $159 a few months ago. Also, for some reason, Sears seems to have great prices on some IR Impacts in their stores. I picked up an IR 2131QT for $179 about a year ago. I use that same impact, and it is very awesome.

I have that sears gun, and given my job, I use it hard every day, and it's holding up fine so far, its about a year old. It hasn't met a bolt or nut it can break loose, its relatively light weight, and is quiet, for an impact, which again is nice when you spend all day using it, I paid like $170 for it, that IR gun everyones mentioned is a great gun too, but is usually real pricey

Thats the Husky gun i'm talking about. Dollar for dollar you cannot touch this gun. It WILL take a crank bolt off, and it's only 100 bucks. I used this gun all day everyday for 2 years and never had a problem with it. Only reason i'm not still using it is because i found a IR titanium for 100 bucks.

Nice. I'm sure you'll be happy with that one. If you're not familiar with the IR impacts then just remember to pick up one of their little lube kits too.

Excellent timing & good info. My 'old' (as in 1977) impact is toast and I wasn't big on spending $200+ for something I wouldn't use that often but there is a project coming up.
