Default Which TIG welder to buy?

I have never tig welded before, always mig, i want to buy an AC/DC machine and have narrowed it down to the Miller EconoTIG and the Lincoln Precision TIG 185. Anyone have any opinions on which machine is better, the lincoln is a little more pricey but i dont know if it's worth the extra cost.

i plan to weld mostly mild steel and occasionally aluminum and stainless.

I can't comment on the Econotig because I haven't used one, but I bought a TIG 185 a couple months ago and can't praise it enough. It will start and hold a stable arc so small that a firefly looks bright by comparison. Very, very good machine for welding everything from paper-thin stock to heavy plate. I just wish I hadn't waited so long to buy it.
Mine came from ebay also, took two days though.....

But I think you will find the biggest difference is the brand name.

the extra amps the lincoln has will definatly help out when welding aluminum.
i have the precision 185 and its a nice unit, torch gets a little hot after welding aluminum for a while (guess thats why they invented water cooled torches)
also the peddle is to the floor most time on aluminum.

I prefer Miller machines, however Lincoln makes good machines also

For Miller I would recommend the Synchrowave 180SD and the Dynasty 200DX

The 180SD is a bit more than the econotig and has better features, the Dynasty 200DX is more of a cadillac, but has tons, and tons of features
