Default Looking for a cheap metal bandsaw

Whenever I see metal bandsaws they are always really expensive. I always see really inexpensive wood cutting bandsaws in places like Home Depot and I cannot help thinking it might be easy to get a decent 1/2 hp wood saw and put a metal blade in it. I want a roughly 12" throat with a 12"x12" platform on which to do the cutting, lots of wood saws fit this decription. Is there any reason why this would not work?

The blade speed of a metal bandsaw is alot slower than a wood saw. It's best to spend the money and get a metal one. I converted a wood saw to a metal saw. It works, but if i had to do it all over I would just buy a metal one to start with.

I looked through the Homne Depot site and I only found one bad saw made by Ridgid. It didn't mention multi-speed. Are you cutting metal with yours?
