What I normally do is just get a compressor from a refrigerator, window A/C unit. Cut the lines and solder a fitting on the suction line to attach the hose from the manifold gage set to. These usually last me a year or so and often you can get them free.
Or......
I just got a flyer in the mail from HARBOR FREIGHT. In it is an advertisement for an vacumn pump reg $15.99 (on sale in the flyer for $9.99) item number 3952. It uses 4.2 CFM of air for power and they say it will pull a full vaccun in 2 minutes. I usually consider Harbor Freight items to be throw-aways, meaning use the once and then throw them away. Actually their stuff last a little longer, but its still not top of the line equipment, but it doesn't coast a young fortune either.
