New Welder and Supplies I am trying to learn how to weld, what do I need to get starting on welding???

My first welding experience was with a torch and coathanger making my dual exhaust LOL
Id say invest in a $400-$500 mig welder and just start welding **** together.. everyone seems to find their own method that works best for them.. just play around and it wont take long to get it down.

Do you have 220v in your garage? If you do then get yourself a Hobart Handler 185 MIG. Youll be able to learn with it and then move up and do chassis work and everything you will probably want with that same machine without having to upgrade. If you only have 110 then look at a Hobart Handler 140 which is their biggest 110v MIG. Thats what I have and I love it
If you want a lil more quality then Miller is the way to go. Hobart is owned by Miller so they are identical but the miller machines use some metal parts where as the Hobart will be plastic.
When your set on a welder check ebay and get it there. You can get a GREAT deal and they are usually free shipping.
Dont forget to get you a gas bottle too! Dont try welding with that flux core stuff. Youll get discouraged because your welds look like crap. Only time I bust out the flux core is when Im trying to get every bit of penetration I can on a thick piece of metal (flux gets hotter so it penetrates better)

O and as far as equipments get a good set of welding gloves and a self darkening helmet. I have a cheapie Northern Tool helmet and LOVE IT! I tried out my buddies Miller helmet and couldnt tell a difference between the two other than his looked cooler, lol.
