Default Aluminum Intake Welding

How much amperage do you need out of a TIG welder to weld injector bungs onto an aluminum intake manifold? With a preheat and possibly someone keeping a torch over the area to keep things warm. I've been looking at the Miller Dynasty 200 DX for it's portability, but it maxes out at 200 amps.

You can do it with 200 amps no problem. Especially if you preheat it at all. I've done it on both a syncrowave 180 and my 200 DX.

You don't need someone to run a torch over it. Just preheat and you are fine.

+1 with FirstGen on the 180. I love mine.

Using 50/50 Argon/Helium would help, too.

this is the best mix gas in the world. Be carefull as this gas will make a puddle quick and will also crack if you dont really take it slow on your exit.I have welded 1" thick with a miller sincrowave 250 with no preheat. This gas is more expensive than argon but will make awesome welds. 4043 filler is a soft rod and will help. A dynasty 200 is, from what I have heard, one of the best small tigs on the market. It is a squarewave which is the latest technology.
