Rear seal cover install tool???

Rear seal cover install tool??? what about this tool that is supposed to help you install the rear cover? LS1 book says you have to have it but my GM guy can't find it and neither can I even on the net what gives? I am just looking in wrong places? any specific help would be wonderful. thanks, Shawn

You dont need any special tool to do anything rear cover/seal related. Take the old rear seal out, install the new one using a block of wood and a hammer making sure the seal is facing the right direction. Then slide the cover and gasket on and tighten down the bolts a little bit and install the bottom oil pan bolts then finish torquing all the bolts down. Its really simple. I use RTV on the gasket too for some added leak protection, plus it helps in keeping the gasket in place when you are lining up the cover.
i dont buy the "have to have the tool crap" they give you. Sure if I was running a professional shop, I would buy the tools and do everything "professional" yada yada. Ive put in SEVERAL front and rear seals as well as oil pans. Never once used a tool. Use a rubber mallet or block of wood and put the seal in, never had one leak.
