Default Tools in cold

Is there any problem leaving cordless tools out in the cold. I have heard that cold kills batteries, and also that you can freeze batteries to keep them from losing charge.

My tool truck heats up and cools down every day. Now it is around 35 here. Ive never had any problems with cordless tools( Or any for that matter) Due to getting cold

i guess the rumor I heard is that cold kills the lithium ion batteries, heat kills the NiMH ones. I always bring my tools in everday when i am done, but they stay in my garage. In the greater Phoenix area, I would say mine never see anything worse than 40 degrees in my garage, I have had no problems. I have yet to do any work in the cold weather with my lithium ion batt. tools though. I can say the NiMH batteries hate the 120 degree summers though.

Really the biggest concern you have with alot of techical tools is that they have rather involved circuit boards. Heat and cold up and down causing condensation. The moisture is what wrecks stuff. Especially on some diodes that have corrosive materials. Also, below freezing can damage LCD and some analog digital displays. I lost a display on a very nice Fluke multimeter while up in the mountains in Colorado.

.

I leave my dewalt 12 & 18 volt stuff in my truck. I do bring all the meters & test equipment inside. As mentioned, $2000 signal meters are too delicate to risk.
