Default Question about 02's and rethreading

So I pulled one of my 02 sensors and the threads are completely melted into nothing...I dont know how I got it out. But it wont go back in. My question is, could I take it to a machinist, would he/she be able to use a die to repair the threads, while still giving it the ability to thread into the header (ie the size cant really be changed). Im trying to do this to save the 80 bucks, and its a perfectlty good, working sensor.
Please offer your input.
thanks guys.

I found a heli-coil repair kit, but you might try a thread chaser (18mm x 1.5mm seems to be a popular size for O2 sensors).

You can try it but there might not be enough material on the sensor to hold it in.
