Could anyone tell me what type or grade of mild steel would be suitable for a dyno roller large hollow 3/8 think 24" round spining at 2800rpm .
Aparently there are diferent grades#20 #30 #40 etc.

Here are the sizes, looks like #20 is what you want

ASTM 50 is the normal grade of steel you will buy that is non-blem and structurally cert. 24" diameter is going to get you alot of flaws for just buying hot rolled pipe. You are going to need to either get it turned down and trued on a lathe or buy cold rolled, and thats very high.

our dynojet 224xlc is about 1" thick (hard to measure in the pit) 24" round. But it is good for 200 mph and 1500 rwhp.

If you want just a roll, I would contact mustang dyno, they will sell just the rollers, custom to your spec, ready to go, for not a bad price.
