Workbenches Since a few people seem to be building up garage workshops, including myself, I'd like to recommend a great addition that is fairly cheap.
I ran across the folowing link for a DIY workbench on the craftsman site:

I built one exactly as the plans described, and liked it so much I built another by stretching the plans to 30x60 w/stock height (I highly recommend these larger dimensions for a garage). I used 3/4" mdf instead of plywood for the top, shelf, and back, this makes for one super heavy duty workbench. With the mdf mod you'll need help putting it where you want it.
This is probably a better workbench than anything you can buy and it costs under $50 in materials.

Re: Workbenches I built a work bench using a sheet of 3/4" mdf, ( 2 2'x8' pieces...top work surface and shelf underneath) 2x4s and 4x4 posts. I used lag bolts to attach the 2x4s to the 4x4s and then used drywall screws to attach the mdf to the 2x4s. Real heavy and sturdy. Then I have room underneath of it for my jackstands and one of my jacks.
I also have a vise and a grinder mounted to it.
