mitchntx do you have a pic or link? A friend of mine that has a custom/paint/body etc shop just got a new box at like Sams or something, it was stainless steel and looked really nice, felt sturdy too. He liked it, and he has a few large Mac and snap on boxs aswell.

I agree that the craftsman pro versions are near a Mac/SnapOn/etc.

The grip latch version I have is pretty nice, I just HATE having to have the top open to get to a drawer. I didn't like it when I didn't have alot of tools in each drawer, but after some weight is in them the grip latch works well and latchs good.

I went and looked at the one at sams club, It was made by nusteel. 647 out the door, not a bad price. Except, no warrenty, drawers flex when leaned on. And drawers bang on each other when closing, have to lift one and push down on another to get them closed. Could have been just beacause it was the beat up dispaly model. Id buy one for the house.

YES, I HAVE AND IT'S A GREAT DEAL....though I'm sure SOMEONE will say it's not..... .........It seemed to be built well and had good drawer rollers. I have 4 boxes and I'd be glad to add this to the collection.

NO they are not!!! Craftsman may want you to believe that but it is no where close to being true! I run a MAC route.

Our boxes are made in house in Ohio, we make only MAC boxes.,Thicker metal is used in MAC boxes vs Craftsman. Heavier slides, rollers etc. For home use a Craftsman box is fine. But load one of them up with a serious amount of tools and in a year or 2 the drawer bottoms will fall out!

Tool boxes from a tool truck are all going to be a step up comparred to what you buy at sears.
On tool truck we also have some lower priced boxes,,our line is called the economizer series. They are made like a Craftsman box. They are fine for begining techs who are looking to trade up in the near the future to a larger box. They buy an econmizer box or Bluepoint (Snap-ons less expensive box) box becuase they know they will hold there value better than a Craftsman box will come trade in time. (We Tools dealers accept trade-ins at fair market value) Buy a box from me and take care of it and if you trade it in within a year on a new box of greater value and I give full retail back on it.... try that with a car )
After a short time most Techs step up to a Tech series tool box. They are made of thick metal, have hevier duty roller bearing slides, deep drawers etc over the other previously mentioned boxes. After that the next step up in the Macsimizer series. They are made out of even heavier gauge steel, with even heavier duty casters and adjustable detent roller bearing drawer slides. These are ussually the tool storage sytems that a tech can use for a lifetime.
The new west coast choppers teck boxes are one of the coolest looking new boxes out, along with the clear powdercoated Tool storage systems just released.

i have a craftsman box i bought used (not exactly the best decision i've ever made, but it was cheap) that i bought when i worked at the dealer from one of the guys who got a cornwell box. the trucks don't give you **** for craftsman. it's been busting at the seams for over a year now, but i've been spending money on parts and not tools lately. lock top roll around is definately a good idea. mine has a drawer under it too thats nice. my dad has been doing this stuff for 20+ years, and his boxes are either mac or matco. had a snap on, but traded it for a used matco that was bigger. the truck stuff is expensive, but definatly higher quality, as my 3 year old crafts man is worn out after everyday use.

Wow suprise to see a MAC guy come on here, I havn't spoken to a MAC guy in about a year when they fired all the tool truck route owners who worked corperate and said they were gonna be their own boss cause MAC ain't gonna pay em salary. I think things are unstable at mac tools corperately. Specially when you have coke head jessie james as your spokesperson.

When I traded in my POS waterloo box the Matco guy gave me $1450 for it, I guess if you trade anything in you automatically get $1400 no matter what value the trade in is. So now I have my 7535 and have a hutch/door assembly comming in for it next week, the hutch looks astounding! will post pics when I get it together.

I have been posting on here since nov of 01 I have been with MAC for 3 years. The end of the company driver program was the best thing that ever happened to me. I was a company diver at the time and made the swith to a traditional distributer.
Now as far as Mac as a company.........I think we have turned things around big time. When the guy driving the truck is making the deals it seems as if less stupid deals are made .

Now as for your tool deal is pretty common for some guys to add a $1000.00 or more on top of suggested retail in order to show you a ton of trade.....They don't loose any money and you think you got a great deal.

As for Jesse James I would say he has been great for sales! I sold about $30,000.00 of Jesse James boxes and apparel last year.

BTW Traditional distributers were not affected. The people that were affected were the ones who had very poor route sales averages. Those with good numbers were allowed to buy there truck, inventory and money on the street at a very reduced rate.(I saved about $50,000.00)All financed in house regardless of credit as long as they were a good employee. I would say that speaks highly of a company IMO

Peace

Mark up to discount yeah see that alot, i've purchased alot of good stuff from MAC sorry to see them leave and hope they come back. Do you guys still sell vetronix stuff? I can't get a price for their scope or mastertech from anybody but the company. It was kinda handy to have three tool bills.

So with all this "trading in" of boxes, what happens to them?

How can I get a good deal on a used box?

Mitch mostly we resell them to new techs starting out. I don't do the mark up to discount thing but many tool guys do.

Flat out a box is a box but there are better boxes. Meaning buy what you need for the job at hand! That said I only buy Snap-On.
Opean the the "Pro Series" Crapsmand and give it a little shake, and you will see the flex the the metal and so called "ball bearings". The KRL series and up Snap-On boxes are folded twice metal.

I have a KRL box w/fileholder and safe built in, stainless 1"top and stainless door covers, and two upper boxes. I have a combo of Craftsman shockets (everone they sell 6pt &12pt) $2700 in MAC, and $32,834.63 in Snap-on!

Oh, and my box with all the Tools is in my livingroom right now! Warm polished and clean as brand new!

So before you spend $10k or $300 make sure it is what you need to have for the job.

And Snap-On,Mac,Matco will all do tradein on a sears box and give good deals to for them!

hey guys i just registered here and saw the tool section. i work at a heavy duty diesel suspension shop, working on anything from classic car suspension to earth movers and cranes. in my shop everyday a 1" and 3/4" drive impact are used constantly. i have about 40k wrapped up in tools and about 15 in just my box. i run a snap on quadruple bank box in the maroon (black cherry) color. if you are going to be a mechanic or working all the time. snap on is the way to go. if it is at home and used occassionally on the weekends a high end craftsman would do the job. i know it was all said before but i just wanted to reply lol

I dunno my dad was a mechanic for United Air Lines for 35 years and he used a Craftsman box and it did the job fine and is still serving its time at home now with the other couple boxes we have.
