Click on User CP
Go to: Edit Details
Edit Email & Passwords
Enter current password
enter new email address
confirm new email address
I just tried it and had no problems though you can't copy & paste the new email address, you have to type it in.

The only thing I can think of is you already have that email registered here and it's asking for your password.
Have you tried retrieving the pw for that email addy?
If you had a different user name that was banned and had that email address, I don't think you can use it again under any username.
