Default New name change policy

Before I start, no, this is not another "change my name please thread."

Just throwing this out there, wondering if this would work as a name change policy. Why not generate some revenue for the site and charge say, $5 or $10 if they'd like their name changed? If they really care that much, the option is there.

I realize this comes with a few issues, these are what comes to mind. The site's database is probably gigantic, so it would be forced to go back and change the names in EVERY thread that they posted in...which would suck if they have a few thousands posts. How to pay? (Maybe an LS1tech/IB Paypal account?). Issues when searching is another, if a person's name is referenced then they could no longer be searched or ask questions (though people do create new names now).

Just an idea, thought it was worth mentioning. I figure it will get shot down, but I just wanted to see what the mods/admins had to say. I figure if enough people do it, maybe the cost to become a sponsor can get cut or IB has just a few extra pennies in their bank.

Thanks for your time, either way.

On the administrator tool board it takes about 2 minutes to change someone's name including logging in.

think about all the times people change their sigs and the pics and lines and links and whenever they do that, it has to go through and change the sig pic and all the lines for every post you have made in the system.. wouldnt be much different than a name change IMO.

I run several Vbulletin sites and its easy as hell to change a username in the Admin control panel area. Having a policy to not change usernames at all is just dumb IMO.

I wonder why you would put such a policy in place? I can't honestly think of one real legitimate reason it should exist. For the record, I could care less either way. You picked the name, live with it. Know what I'm sayin

How many Vbulletin sites do you run with nearly 200,000 members?

We used to change usernames upon request on this site, however abuse of this service (frequent requests, impatient and rude people) caused the policy to be re-evaluated.
