Default We Need an Interiors Section

Title says it. I don't like having to post to the electronics section every time to get help with interior related topics.

Exactly what kinda questions are you wanting to know? There is an Appearance and Detailing section that is for interior and exterior modification.

i dont think so, we have the electronics and the appearance section but we need to have one giant thread (nobody can post in it though) that explains how to disassemble every single part of the car from interior to engine

I would like to see that thread, do you have a link?

That section is specifically for appearance modifications. Two things I have to point out.

1. Not all interior work is a mod

2. Not all interior work is appearance related

Anything that doesn't satisfy these two qualities does not qualify to be posted in that section.

What if a person is doing regular interior work and needs help? Or is doing an interior mod that is not appearance related?

For example: sound deadening, not appropriate for the electronics section, certainly not an appearance mod.

Or what about a custom dash or console? Not all custom dashboards and consoles are made for show (would qualify them for appearance section), some are made for the purpose of added functionality instead like to hold extra gauges or electronics. Some of you might say at that point that they belong in the electronics section, I say no, those parts are not actually electronic, they only hold electronics and the skills applied to one area aren't necessarily applicable in the other. What I'm saying is that just because you know how to make a sweet custom dash doesn't mean you know jack about electronics, and just because you're an electronics genius doesn't mean you know anything about upholstery.

What about seats? Which is it? A comfort item, safety item or appearance item? May not necessarily qualify as the last one and I seriously doubt anyone is buying seats solely based on the way they look.

What about people working on a track car interior? Roll cage work, interior safety equipment work, racing seats, etc... Any topic relating to a gutted out track car interior definitely does belong in the appearance section. Things like these relating to safety are important enough that they deserve their own section.

In the end another having another section would make things easier to find and make it easier to get help. Just because we can get away with having one section less doesn't mean its the most effective way of doing things.

Another vote for separate interior section. I've been doing a lot of searching lately for interior info and it too much to sift through for specific threads.

I'd have to agree and say that it would be nice to have too.
I've been on other forums that have them and it works well.

I understand not wanting it have to many sub forums, but I don't think that this would create any problems.

This is the classic post to me that OVER-complicates things. Roll cages go to drag racing tech, sound deadening goes to either appearance because its an interior mod or electronics because its associated with reduced noise for stereos. And actually, any stereo shop in your town would do sound deadening to your interior whether you had an 8 track player or whatever. That's a classic real world association that's universally accepted. Same for racing seats, custom dash, or safety equipment. The fact is the "interior" is in the Appearance section now, and anything you change is a "mod". My .02.

I disagree, as a matter of fact I think its the opposite. Having to post in sections unrelated (or at best vaguely related) to the information being sought, out of a lack of a dedicated section is what makes things complicated.

If we had a dedicated interiors section it would be much easier to search for and find information that someone else has already discussed rather than having to start a new thread every time. This would help clean up the site.

You have a point there, I though that section was for rules and racing discussion only. Guess I learned something today.

Sound deadening in appearance? This is a joke right? Not only is it not an appearance mod, its actually meant to be hidden underneath carpet and upholstery.

We're not just talking about mods here. What about replacement of worn out parts? Where would dissassembly, reassembly, repairs and restoration fit into any of this? Those are definitely not mods.

More importantly I have to ask, why the hell not? There are some pretty useless sections on this site which get a pass (5th gen camaro subsections for instance), I don' see why something as useful (and apparently popular judging by the responses by others on this thread) as an interiors section shouldn't.

I have to agree too the interiors of these cars is built like crap and is constantly breaking. It would be nice to have a section to have repair ideas for the interior and also to have some mods like seat swaps, dash wrapping, etc.

Over complicating things can actually dilute and decrease traffic and interest. That's why you would want to be careful creating new and/or un-needed sections. Let me give you an example.......

We go to McDonalds. Guy looks at the menu and says he cant figure out what he wants to eat. You ask why. He replies:

"It's the menu. It's too unorganized. See, the problem is it's not grouped together appropriately. The sandwiches should be split into rows, one for single meat, one for double meat, and to the side of those two we can put chicken. The ones that are available with wheat buns go to the left, regular buns in the center, sesame seed buns to the right. If they come with "special sauce", those go in the top right by themselves. What sandwiches come in combos? Those should be at the bottom, so everyone knows you get drinks and fries with those. For pricing we should do a separate drop down menu under each selection. The price should be for with or without cheese, and the combo price given per size of combo, if applicable, small price to the left, medium price in the middle, large price to the right. If they are running a special on anything, that price should be circled. New items are to be in bold print so they stand out. And what about the wraps? They need their own section with a line clearly drawn separating them from the burgers. Drinks also should be divided. One group for carbonated, and another for non-carbonated. Split that into caffeine and caffeine free. I have also always wondered how they do the happy meals toys. Those should be grouped into nugget or hamburger happy meals. Then you get to choose boy or girl. Then pick the best age group of your kid: 1-2, 3-5, 6-10, 10-12, 12+ doesn't get happy meals. Actually, lets just make a separate kids menu. All happy meal menu items should be colored in bright blue or pink depending on if its for a girl or boy. You know what, I'm sick of this unorganized company. I will just eat at home."

Judging by the positive response on this thread I'd say interest is certainly not lacking.

If unneeded sections are such a concern then why do have such a large 5th gen camaro section? Why can't the 5th gen just have a place in the vehicle specific forums like every other car? Why do we have separate external engine, internal engine, power adder, drivetrain, suspension, tuning, racing and classifieds sections for the 5th gen? It makes no sense. If an increase in the number of sections is positively correlated with a lack of organization then this is probably the greatest source of disorganization on this site. I'd be willing to bet that most 5th gen owners post in the regular sections anyway since those see more attention and they are more likely to get help. I cannot understand why all the extraneous 5th gen sections are given a pass and but when an interiors section is suggested (and is supported by other members) it becomes a problem.

IMO, the only valid point here is a designated section for interior repairs and restoration. Anything else done to the interior is some level of modification and can generally fit in another current section (electronics, appearance, etc.).

I think it's possibile that the current Appearance section can handle interior repairs & restoration, as well as modifications. This section already handles some exterior repair/restoration items that don't fit in the Paint & Body Work section, so it seems to make sense that a similar scope of interior items could be grouped into the same section. A slight change to the naming of that section might not be a bad idea.

I don't know what some of you people do to these cars, but you must be pretty rough with them. I've got 100k miles on my '02; the interior has never broken and is barely worn, the seats don't even have thin spots yet. Some of you must have rabid cats living in there.

I got a kick out of that one.

I don't know everyone else's excuses are but mine is a vert, I had issues with water leaking through the top and damaging the interior. I'm currently working on replacing the carpeting jute.

Agreed, my car has just under 110k and the interior is immaculate, dash, seats, carpet, door panels all look brand new.

Some of us get our cars used that way.
My interior had cracked door panels, horribly ripped seats and all.

I suppose Florida heat doesn't help my case any.
Not all of us can keep our cars in a garage :/

Oh and as far as 5thngen, there Is a lot of stuff here.

Even the LS1Tech banner has a 5th gen that never had an LS1 offered
Leaving out the 4th Gen camaro

And the 5th gen has a backwards chevy logo.

(I know that has nothing to do with an interiors section, just thought I'd add.)

I agree with having an interior section with these cars getting older and some people are buying them in a ragged out condition and may want to fix them up or restore them.
Of course I have a 72 Z28 and the interior was totally shot and\or moded and looking at others ideas and\or fixes helped me a lot. Just my .02 cents but I'm old lol.
