What browser are you using? Try hover over, or left-click and hold, over the back button to view the contents of the History. Provide a screen capture of those contents.
I'm using IE9 and have this problem occasionally. Normally when I hover over the back button then click and hold, it will tell me what I was previously looking at. Just now I was viewing a for sale ad and when I clicked the back button, it didn't do anything. Here is the screenshot of what I see when I hover over the back button and click and hold. Hopefully this helps.

when i hit my back button, i get addoubleclick & it sucks because you have to start all over just for it to happen again & again.
