Default locking old threads

I seem to see more and more people bumping OLD threads, instead of starting a new thread which I guess is to much work! Would it be possible to start having OLD threads automatically locked from receiving new post if there hasn't a post in the thread in over 2yrs..? I really don't see locking the threads after a set amount of inactivity causing any issues since forum members can still reference the locked thread if they want to. I'm sure I'm not the only member getting tired of other members bumping 5-11 year old thread only to realize after they typed up a good reply that thread is fossilized and the odds are pretty good that you've wasted a good chunk of time that could be directed towards threads that still have a pulse and could benefit from a new reply.

Pretty sure as this is not a huge issue in the LS1tech community, and that each (old) thread is dealt with on a case by case basis by the moderator in the respective section. This seems to be an adequate way of dealing with it. I for one think that some info, lots of it actually, stays pretty relevant as the cars and car mods really don't change over time, just the owners do. In my years here, and all my post replies, I don't see the issue you're seeing. My .02.

I see no reason for an autolock, and I agree with this:

Occasionally we'll get a new member that's trying to build post count for classified access and will bump a ton of old threads just for this purpose. We just delete those posts when caught or reported. Or sometimes a thread will be bumped with a nonsense post for no apparent reason, in which case I will usually delete that as well.

But sometimes the bump is relevant and makes sense, and when it doesn't we can always just lock it or delete the nonsense posts. This happens sometimes but overall I don't think it's a big issue here.

Yep, this is the sort of rule I follow. Sometimes a thread is revived frivolously, and if the subject isn't of ongoing interest, I'll lock it. But sometimes a bumped thread revives a topic that is still of current relevance, in which case I leave it alone. In fact, there was a recent thread - I think it was in Gen III External - that I considered locking, but for the above reason, left alone.
