Default Auto. Trans. Forum Rules

Anybody else feel as if maybe some new rules for the Automatic Transmission Forum should be made; if this site supports it???

I would be down for:

-New members have a 60 day lock-out from making new posts on threads that have been inactive for 6 months or more.

-New members MUST read "Sticky-Threads" or Threads deemed most-important... (that would best explain forum protocols) before being permitted to post in the Forum period.

You guys have any ideas of your own... Please share.

I think the last thing this forum needs is to limit new members lol. Theres also no way to make sure everyone reads the stickies of every section.

The problem with your 6 month rule is that people are told to search for things, then they reply to a post and people blast them with bringing back a dead post, even though they are told to use the search function.

Its a forum, its made for people talking and answering questions but no one seems to want to do that, either you should be born with this info, someone has forgotten more than you know about ls engines, or lets just argue.

I agree with trilkb. This should be a place where people feel safe to come in and express ideas and ask questions without being brow beaten or made to feel like an idiot. It will may take the newbs a few post to get the hang of it but we all had to start somewhere. No one should be bullied or made to feel inferior because they didn’t ask the right question. I myself have backed off posting on here partly because of the hostel atmosphere. I am not some millennial who gets their feels hurt easily, I have been a fleet tech for 37 years and am here to learn and give back to the forum for the things I have learned from it.

I think the rules are fine the way they are. 6 months is ridiculous, no one is going to hang out that long before they can post.

6 months is excessive...but a holding period would be fine with me. 10 days? Just enough that guys don't just make an account with the sole intent of bumping a single thread or starting one thread and then ditching...leaving open ended threads and clutter.
LOTS of 5+ year old posts getting revived from the dead with a question that has already been answered multiple times gets old
If there is a thread left open ended and someone bumps it years later to clarify or close up the loose end, thats different than someone saying "hey I'm having a similar issue...lets bring back this thread from 2009 instead of me just starting my own thread"

It would be easier for the mods to just close inactive threads so no post can be made

shiiiiiiiittttt...inactivating threads all the way back from 2001 would be neigh on impossible.
Adding a 10 day wait period on new accounts would be cake

We're not looking to limit new membership in this way, but we can/do delete unnecessary thread bumps (those containing either unrelated/irrelevant content or something which should be moved to its own thread) when found or reported. Sometimes an old thread bump is warranted, but we agree that often it would be best to simply start a new thread.

But, again, we wouldn't want to put such excessive posting restrictions on new members.
