I think something is wrong with the private message function I’ve tried sending a PM twice to someone, it seems like it sent, but it’s not in my “sent” folder. I’ve sent PM’s to people before and they’re in my sent folder, but nothing with this one.

If there was an issue, such as a technical issue with the back-end, you would have likely seen a PHP or database error code on a rather plain looking webpage. If there was a permission issue, you would have seen a permission error message.
My best guess is that whatever you used to send the PM (likely the browser itself but possibly related to the device and if it was using the mobile or desktop theme) may have not passed the "Save A Copy" setting that's found below the message box. That value has to pass in order for the option to work. That doesn't mean the message itself was not sent.
If you don't receive a response from the other member, let me know and I'll do some further checking but it's almost certainly related to your device and/or method of accessing that didn't pass the "Save A Copy" setting correctly during submission.
