when replying to a thread how do you insert a quote?

the other way, is to put [ quote] in the beginning of what you want to quote, and [ /quote] after the end of it(just remove the spaces i've put in there so you can see them, so they don't parse and insert a quote box). thats all the quote button does....is insert those tags for you.

Well, it does do a little more than that... adds the name of the person whose post you're quoting (like [quote=Nsty98LS1]), and the post you're quoting is completely copied in there... copying it manually won't get any smilies, and shortened links won't work anymore - the '...' version is all you get instead of the complete working address. (These things can be put back in individually, but that's a PITA if there's more than a couple.)
