In addition, the post-count doesn't get updated immediately - there is sometimes a lag due to the complex database queries that go on 'behind the scenes'. Just speaking from experience with vBulletin.... The technical explanation is that there's a job that runs periodically throughout the day that updates post-counts, along with other things, for those that care.
