what do you have to do to become a mod? im in the navy, and i have 'working hours'...so i have to stay on my ship until 2 oclock everyday...even though i have NOTHING to do. so i just sit here and browse on here, and a few other forums...with all my free time i think i could be a good mod what are some requirements?

Its who you know and how "company line" you are. Don't ruffle any feathers or start/participate in any controversial threads. Post a LOT in the newbie forums, pimp and hype up the site whenever possible and you should be good to go.

Why do each of you think you were "chosen"? What attributes do you feel that you had to offer when compared to any other member? I'm genuinely curious.

There are moderators that don't own LS1s, there are moderators who have never owned LS1s. There are moderators who havent signed on in days, weeks, months even.

I will say that I think you guys do a good job, and I'm sure its a PITA alot of the time. That being said, I do think its a popularity contest and not always based on LS1 experience or knowledge. No harm meant, not trying to insult anyone, just my opinion, and you know what they say about opinions.... <------smiley

FWIW, at least the last time I checked, there was only one moderator (aside from Colonel) who hadn't signed on in the past week

It's a combination of asking, participating and being asked.

We have over 100 moderators now. We turn over 10+ every year, plus we have added many new forums.

things change, people change, life changes. such is the way of things, moderators are phased in and out as needed. i prefer having an ecletic group of mods; owners and non owners of said ls1 equipped vehicles. one does not need to own an LS1 to mod every forum here.

ls1.com/ls2.com, yes, chosen moderators can be seen as chosen by being "popular". here however, mods are chosen by technical expertise as well as there demenor and ability to commimt. there are alot of knowledgable people on this site, but im sure not all of them are able to commit the time neededto accept the position or even want it. they may have otherr obligations.

as for me, i actually turned down the position when Tony first offered it to me . i chose to stay on and moderate ls2, eventually (5 months later) i decided to jump ship and head to the hardcore tech site . been here for ~10 months and lovin every minute of it. being a mod here doesnt mean you automatically conform to Tony or Brians views. we all have our own opinions and input. becoming a mod hasnt changed me; i still tell muthafuckas to use the search button, i still call bullshit when i see it irregardless of who its with, and i still come here to learn

i can definitely tell you i was not chosen b/c i was popular, lol. i am one of the more abrasive mods on here, but then again look at the forums i mod

having your own personality, while not being totally condescending and demeaning to other members, and being able to add to the technical content to this site as well as help the members in the use of this site are all things i see are qualities of a good mod. most of us have spent enough time on here that we know the ins and outs of the board more than many. agreeing with the admin is not a prerequisite.

The funniest thing about that for me is that I didn't mean to do it in the first place. Oh well I work for an architect so I'm at the computer all day.
