Default Suggestion (registration quiz)

I usually frequent the Nirvana Fan Club website and when I regristerd a while back, I had the take this quiz about all the **** that gets asked over and over again. They basically had like a page full of questions/answers I had to read. Then after you read them over you go to the next page and they have this quiz that you must pass in order to regrister. Like on here threads like why cant I post? why is my post count not going up? What lid is the best? etc... Maybe if you guys put together some sort of quiz with those answers so when people go to regrister it will help. I know a lot of people dont read the stickys because of the posts that I read. So if you were able to make a quiz based off of the stickys it will help. I mean it helped me big time when I went to regrister on the Nirvana Fan Club, I was able to learn a lot just from regristering. Just a thought is all... cause no retarded questions get asked liked that over there, they are really stricted when it comes threads that dont need to be there.

Not a good idea IMO...although I understand why you made the suggestion.

I don't think dissuading (sp?) folks from registering is a good thing. Think in terms of a business. The more members the better. Of course quality counts moreso than quantity. A happy medium is the best case scenario. More members = more mods = more sponsors = more $$$.

My 2 cents.

very true...just thought it would be a better way of getting people to know what they would be posting after they are regrister, and then not have them ask the same questioned thats been answered hundreds of times. I dont think that it would draw anyone away from regrestering, it would just be a way of getting them to read and understand some of the stuff that you guys have stickied. While helping them learn just the basics...cause not that many people read the stickys unfortunitley.

Just thought I would throw this post out there cause I have been thinking about how effective it was on the Nirvana site.

i dont like the blanket statement that it makes assuming that everyone who registers is a newbie and should be forced to take such a quiz just to join the site. however if it could be taylored to the right people and maybe modified to where it would only apply to people who are first trying to post in the newbie section after registration.

i've gotten past the point of telling people to search. there are those who will use this sites technical base to inform and educate themselves and actully learn. then there are others who will be lazy and practically want you to do everything short of wiping there *** for them, in the long run they are doing a disservice to themselves anyway so its their loss. not to single anyone out but this is the kind of person who just wont stop and grasp what is spoken to him. its the 3rd post asking the same question even after good and consise infor was already given to him, including links too all the stickies. which no doubtedly he didnt read...

I personally would be quite annoyed and offended by having to pass a quiz to register. Frankly, I know very little about these cars. I joined this site to learn. I did, however read almost every sticky and FAQ before ever posting and have made numerous successful searches in my 10 days on this site. I have also aided several other newbies find (yes, often obvious) answers to questions. Being the owner and administrator of an automotive forum myself, albeit a much smaller one (deepsouthscions.com), I try to help out and maintain order on all the boards I am registered on. Sure, some people are new to forums, but they have to learn somewhere. We were all freshmen once.

Just a humble opinion from a n00b who plans to be in here for the longhaul.

Woah didnt mean to offend anybody...I still dont know why you would be

I was not offended at all when I took a quiz to regrister for a forum...infact I was eager to lean as much as possible and it helped me. Thats good that you read the stickys, thats what they are there for. I just thought I would throw this suggestion out cause I see a lot of threads that should not be there. It would also be an oppertunity for people who want to learn the basics to do so. Like you said, they have to learn somewhere...

that idea doensnt really work in this type of forum. what if john force, larry meaux (sp), ect wanted to register here, do you really think it'd be fair to have him take a newbie quiz on catback suggestions and intake mods?

like i said, the information is out there plain as day for people, its up to them to take advantage of those resources. and dispite the mundane and overly repeated newbie questions that get posted, alot of people do take the stickies to heart as evident by the views and responses i get from them.

Oh, those stickys of yours really are helpful Jerami . I have learned some much from them, if they are really taken to heart then they are an excellant source for learning. I just dont want you to think that I am saying the stickys are not working or anything like that. Just trying to find a way for more people to read them!

the idiots that need to be taking the quizzes are the people that wouldn't take the time to do the right thing. the people that already know the stuff, are the only ones that would sit down and take it, and they already do the right thing, so it'd only waste their time. there's a few here and there that would sit down and read all the stickies and guides and then take a quiz before they could go post in certain sections, but by that time.....i can go register at another site that doesn't have all that crap.

thats how i look at it.

If there were to be a quiz, it wouldn't be on automotive knowledge -- it would be on simple internet knowledge I wouldn't mind banning *@aol.com either, I get the most problems from AOL users.
