DSL modem/router problems
Recently we dumped our cable modem for DSL so the only thing that has changed is the modem.
I run a d-link DI-604 router for 2 pcs in the house. I've had it for 3 years.
The modem "admin" access IP is identical as the router access, so I changed the router access IP address.
I can usually get on, but sometimes I'll walk away from the pc and come back and it just plain won't "find" anything on the internet. I have to reboot the router, reset that IP address, release and renew something called DHCP in the router admin, AND release and renew the IP address for the pc in the "dos" window.
Today I can get here, but can't get to most other sites - like ESPN or CNN, or the new Texas Speed website (I really want to go there!!)
Is my router dying?
My hunch is your DSL provider requires you to log in, and your D-link isn't doing the login properly. So, you'll be connected for a while, but when it comes time to refresh your connection, your provider knocks you out because the D-link isn't sending the login. When you manually request your info via DHCP, everything works again.

I think you're right about the DNS issue.....using Netscape it tries and tries to "resolve" the website to no avail and then tells me it doesn't exist.
Ok - what's my best fix - keep in mind I'm not real good with the whole networking thing. Is there a better router (ie - newbs can figure it out easy) or some setting i'm missing?
