Default Request to Close All Polls on First Page Jan. 1

It's just a suggestion, and if it's not a good one, then please disregard. No need to reply to this in either the affirmative or the negative.

I started one of those ultra stupid "which car is best" polls as "LS1Tech satire." There were already two going on and I merged them. Most people caught on and we joked around for a while.

In my opinion, these polls are just out of control. I think 777 made the right move when he closed the "mustangs suck" thread for the reason given. Good job not closing it arbitrarily without giving a reason, 777.

Might the administration consider closing the polls that are located on the front page on Jan. 1?

They are all utterly pointless, but regardless, they have ran their course to the end. Miraculously, through these in-depth scientific studies, we have found that Pontiac and Chevy F-Bodies are actually almost identical. Amazing, but true.

This would leave more room on the front page for relevant and valid posts.

Perhaps if warning was given before hand, complaints would be minimized and those who sill wish to cast their vote or voice their opinion would be able to do so.

Then we could take a little break from the polls for a few months or so, you know, to digest all the astounding information we have learned.

Either way, we didn't need the polls to find that Camaros are better than Firebirds.

Thanks.

You actually started one of those polls. And you have the ability to end it. Just delete your first post and away it goes.

For the rest of them, its not a half bad idea. A sticky banning those threads would be in order, b/c those threads are useless. But thats just one individual's opinion. I too think that's been beaten to death. However, to tighten free speech that much might be an issue. Have to get more staff/admin opinions on that before doing anything of that nature.

Well for my own opinion I think it just adds to this board. I know the board is centered around tech but there has to be some plain stupid stuff sometimes or people won't have fun or any sense of humor. The only downside is that it opens the gate for idiots who have no desire for tech to come in here and just "play around." So I think that some of the polls should stay open, even though they may seem stupid. However, some like the mustang poll should be closed because it's just a topic beaten to death and absolutly nothing good will come from it.

I don't see a whole lot of ambiguous polls though since I spend 75% in the newb, internal, external section. The other 25% is just a few random things I look at from time to time. I spend maybe 5-10% of my time in non-tech sections.

Yep, the particularly stupid/beaten-to-death/flame-inducing topics are often closed normally, whether there's a poll included or not! It's not really doing any harm to have some polls on car-related topics of less-than-earthshaking importance sitting around; and with the 'Poll:' prefixes to their titles, it's easy to ignore them if you don't like them.

I don't even go into the Enthusiasts section anymore unless I see a thread in the Latest Post in the index that catches my eye, hence why I offered my opinion as an individual - I never really spend any time in there. If you move out of that section, and move into the more technical sections, you won't have an issue with those posts!

Another reason I don't go into the lounge or street racing sections.
