Default Suggestion- Sold it? add a note to the original post (DON'T delete the thread.)

Fairly new here, but lots of time on other sites, so I'm throwing this out for consumption.

Being a power searcher/shopper, I utilize the search feature when shopping for stuff, i.e. 5.3 motor, turbo, etc. I even used it before posting this thread- no one had a similar post in this section that I could find, so I'll continue.

It is really frustrating & a waste of our time (buyers & sellers) when you list the Super Widget 6000 for a good price and it sells within a couple of days and you leave the ad up [Edit] without updating that it has been sold.

Example:
I was shopping for a motor, but deleted the entire thread tonight since I've found one elsewhere. Now no one will need to read this post when trying to sell a motor or doing a keyword search with my WTB terms in it .

[Edit] No one had replied on that thread, so I guess there was no harm in deleting it. Per the advice below, it is best if you update/edit your thread to show the item has sold (see below). IF you need to delete or edit it, here is how to do so:

1) Make sure you are logged in.
2) Find it- go to your user CP & see if it is listed as a subscribed thread (it should be).
3) At the lower right of the ORIGINAL post, you will see an "Edit" button. Click it. You can now edit (see 2nd attached pic) or delete the post.
4) The box at the top of this window is titled "Delete this Message". Check the "Delete Message" circle, put in a reason (if you want to), and click the "Delete this Message" button (see 1st attached pic).

All those searching for / selling stuff appreciate your cooperation in listing your part as sold or otherwise no longer FS.

Now, as for those "Hit and Run" sellers (posting an ad & never replying to inquiries...)

Yeah, but when you sell an item, you need to use the URL address from the post in order to post trader ratings.

Don't delete the thread, its used for multiple reasons. The right thing to do is to post up in the thread and say you sold it, or do what I prefer to see, is edit your first post in the thread and say its been sold, so folks don't have to sift through the whole thread to figure out whether its available or not.

While it'd be nice if there was a box you could check to say its sold, and it would append the thread title, I would bet that would require a code hack on Brain's behalf and that would rank about last on his list of priorities right about now.

Thanks for the info. I'm not used to forums w/ feedback ratings, but this is a good idea. I've edited my original post to reflect this info.

Yep, do NOT delete threads when the deal is completed.

That is good, but just add a note that it's been sold, don't remove the original contents of the post and leave nothing but 'sold' there... when people do that, we can't see what they were selling anymore even if the rest of the thread is still there.

Exactly......don't remove the original contents, just add a note in there in bold saying *Sold* or *All items sold* or something like that. That will help people quite a bit.
