Will the search ever be thread based again?????
searching by actual posts is far more precise when looking for something specific. I understand not wanting to see multiple returns for several posts in the same thread, but you can also avoid that if you use more specific terms in your search.
For example, I was searching for "Camaro Fog Light" so I could list some useful threads in the Lighting FAQ, but the result list was over 1400 pages long and most of the entries on the first 5 pages were from the same threads. I also tried searching for "Camaro Fog Light housing" and still got 400+ pages returned. Unfortunately, when I re-ordered the results by post date (which I often do), the results were mostly just hits containing the word "Camaro" and had nothing to do with Fog Light Housings.
Maybe the results can be expand/collapsible where the results show 25 threads per page and you can expand the thread entry to show the applicable posts. Then you could click on the thread title to be taken to the beginning of the thread or click on a specific post to get taken to that post directly (like it does now).
If that would require too much restructuring or would require too much processing-time/memory, then maybe just have an option to limit the results to just threads instead of individual posts.
I too am a programmer and understand the balance of features and hardware ability.
I'm not bashing the Search Tool at all. I like it a lot actually and it performs very well. I'm just pointing out an issue and a possible solution.
Should I post this in the Search Thread too?

I never did hit a motherload page. But yes, I'm having a hard time getting use to the search also.
In the past, I would search by my user name and it would bring up any threads I had posted in. It would sort them in order by the most recent reply by any member, not by when I made my last post, which is what it does now.
Just something to get use to I guess...
