No .... working as in working similar to other forums, where you can find what you are looking for without needing to type in some cryptic search string that you need a cheat sheet to remember on the side.

If it's all good and I'm just wrong, post a link to search results with every thread that I started that also shows who the last person/time was that posted in the threads. ****; I will PAY you to show me how to make that search, that's the one I used to use 4-5 times a day. Now in my profile when I search for threads I started I get a giant pile of **** back that is irrelevant. I will absolutely pay money to have this fixed; I'm not kidding.

When searching, I use the available options on the Advanced Search screen without any added code.

I can find threads started by you and ordered by date. The results do not show who last posted and the post date column is wrong though.

I clicked the link in your profile and found the threads started by you.

What is it that you want to see that you aren't seeing. Who last posted in a thread you started?

By the way, there is a Search sticky in which this conversation should be held. Its only a matter of time before an Admin locks this thread.

Search is only as good as the person using it. Some people think search can read your mind -- and it can -- but if your mind is blank, all bets are off

Here is my profile from another forum. http://www.vadriven.com/forums/member.php?u=15950

it has :
Find all posts by Frost
Find all threads started by Frost

See how it returns the "threads started".... it used to do that here, now it returns everything I have posted (seemingly) not threads started.

I have an incredibly hard time finding threads that I remember key terms and even 3-5 words in a row and just can't turn them up like that. Sorry to be general here, just haven't been making notes of that.

He is right about this. I have tried to search for threads started by some users only to come up with every single post they have ever made. This has been happening for me for a while. I just passed it off as something that was being worked on. Of course I understand that everything is not always perfect so it really doesn't bother me that much.

No you didn't, you got every single post I have made in every thread. I don't think I even started a single thread returned on the first page of results

In the Texas Forum. I posted a thread about Byunspeed and ACE Racing Transmissions partnering up on some clutch sales / installations.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...311&highlight=

I went back to find that thread and could not. I had a potential customer try to find it, he could not find it.

Try it yourself, no kidding I could not find it in almost 1/2 hr search... got rather pissed off and bailed out on the search. Sent Young a p.m. asking him if he had removed the thread. I told the customer to give me some time. Great huh.

Even now when I do a search for it... not a full blown Advanced Search... I get everything but what I am looking for. Please try that youself. Furthermore type in the excact thread title and see what you get!!!!!!!

The only, and I mean only problem I have with this search engine is the fact that it requires too much input. It was just fine like it was before it went under the knife IMHO. When I am working with someone, trying to find a conversation or a bit of technical info on a system I am not familiar with or just need to be reminded what I said, I have to defer the result until later, when I can devote time to the search. It is not user friendly.

Do the search I mentioned using the Search drop down at the top of this page, not the Advanced search and tell me if you can find the thread after you type in the entire Thread Title.

It did not work for me, 4 times now. And if I have the entire thread title and search for threads..... why does that thread not come up on top, numero uno? And why not, that should be the very 1st one listed IMHO. Or am I just asking for too much. Heck, try the words Byunspeed and ACE ... you still will not find that thread in the search engine.

I found it this morning by going to my P.M. box, clicking on my customers name, going to recent posts and looking for it there. That is the quickest way I know to find it.... not the search engine.

Hey if it was easy everyone would do it right? I get it. My point is... it is not user friendly, period.

Thanks for the rant space. Good day.

I use to use the search the same way Frost is talking about. It made it easy to see if anybody had responded after myself under any topic.

I'd go to:

"Search"-->

"Advanced Search"-->

"Search by user name"--> ss1

It use to bring up every topic I had posted in, but would only bring it up once. It would put all of the topics in order by the date & time of the last person who posted, and it would tell you who the last person was as well.

The way it works now, when you arrange the posts by date, it only puts them in order by your last post, not just the most recent post by anybody.

Just a thought, please don't hate...

OK, I did some further testing.... the search results lie.

They give a list of threads and say that they are started by the user you selected, but they aren't. Also, the Post Date column displays the date of that person's last post instead of the thread start date or the date of the last post.

Interesting....

Brains, any ideas?

I did some more testing with Advanced Search.

If you choose "Threads started by user" then it actually lists threads started by that user.

If you choose "Posts by user" it lists threads in which that user posted but it lists them as the thread starter which is wrong.

In both instances I had the results shown as Threads and sorted by Post Date.

The results from clicking on the "Find all threads started by user" link on a user's profile returns threads in which the user posted and says that they are the thread starter (like I outlined above) which is wrong.

A workaround for now would be to use Advanced Search and make sure "Threads started by user" and "Show as Threads" are selected. That will return the correct results.

This may be a new bug that Brains didn't know about.

Since I always use Advanced Search, I didn't notice this problem until now either.

Ive been struggling with it too. However, Ive had no issues searching for my posts/threads. You just need to use the right combo of "find threads"/"find posts" and "relavence vs. post date".

I HAVENT had luck with the actual search feature. I type in three words, all over 3 letters, and it brings up threads that only have one of the three, and its totally irrelevant. Ive tried adding quotes, adding commas, reading the stickies. Etc... I just havent had luck with it.

Thirdgen.org has switched to this new style of search engine, and the same holds true for over there. So I dont think its a site specific issue. Im keeping my fingers crossed that its just something that will be smoothed out since its a newer design. Gonna just be patient and hope it pans out, because between those the two sites, there is literally a TON of good info...but its no good if people cant easily search it, or if theads are being left out of the results due to a small technicality in the way it was typed. And newer people that havent been around during the change are even more lost.

Either way...atleast it works! haha.

In the 80's when computers started to gain a *room* in the work place, the simplest thing to ever remember (DOS) was "you ask the computer to do something so it does it, the more simple your question is exactly what the computer will do".
Odd enough, it still holds true now even though google is using AI on future search engines.

Unfortunately, the first AI used will only learn that "Britany Spears" and "****" are the most requested search items.
All those movies of AI taking over the world in a menacing way have now become obsolete - the world will be nothing but **** and BS
