If you're the thread starter, deleting the first post will do it, IIRC.

Click on Edit of your first post. You should see it then.

i've deleted a few threads. Sometimes it would let me and sometime it wouldn't, not sure why but i figured it had something to do with a time limit or if someone had posted a response to your thread. Some people might get their feelings hurt if you delete a thread and in turn their post count goes down.
Oh and yes your post count will go down. I do it on older threads that never got a response just to keep the some of the clutter down on here.

Yeah, one would think that people (like you) should care more about following the forum rules. Like maybe.....the signature rules.
