Default Shipping a shortblock???

I have never shipped a shortblock cross country before. I have a couple of guys interested in buying my shortblock, one is in KY, the other is in NJ.
I must be doing something wrong because I called UPS freight services and asked for a quote to ship an 'internal combustion engine' weighing approximately 250lbs and fitting on one pallet, picked up from my house and shipped to 40218 (KY), and the lady on the other line told me that the class was 85 and that the cost would be over $1000. But I keep hearing that it should be around $150 or more.

What shipping company have you guys used?
What weight class was used?

Shipping from residential is EXPENSIVE. That's why I put my stuff up as local pick up only. Unless you have a hook up from a company that ships stuff all the time and can give you their discount....bring you're checkbook.

Yeah I wish someone local would buy it, I think $350 picked up is a good deal.

Assuming he does, will it cost the $253.83 - non-commercial that you quoted earlier?
What will it be if he doesn't?

Word to the wise, if he doesn't have a forklift on premises, charge him for the lift gate. Don't let him give you the "we have a bunch of guys here that can help lift it" line. The freight company will arrive, see that there is no safe way to unload it, then go back to headquarters to get a lift gate. You will incur the additional charges after delivery.

Also, aren't you srj? Can't you just teleport it by flexing your muscles or something?

SRJ doesnt need shipping companies, he can just chuck the engine like a paper plane and it gets to where ever it needs to go.

I used http://www.gorlc.com/kp_rate_quote.asp
To ship my FLT Transmission to my buddies shop in Van Nuys
A 150LB transmission from Indiana to Van Nuys CA, Bussiness to Bussiness cost me ~$160.00

Have it picked up at a bussiness and shipped to a bussiness and you will save $80-120

Also They don't weigh it when they pick it up so you can underestimate if you need to save some dough$
