This is true... If you are military, don't let a cop try and bully you into telling you that you have to register your car in Cali, the Soliders and Sailors Act does not allow them to do that. You are technically only domiciling in CA, not a resident. You are a resident of your home state where you enlisted. A buddy of mine was hassled about this, and it went away.

Damn! Is that everywhere in AZ or just particular areas?! I personally wouldn't mind moving to AZ, other than not having the ocean nearby.

After moving back home to Hawaii, I must say I don't miss that crap at all. On the other hand although my state doesn't worry about smog they focus on other stuff. We're required to have a safety check every year which they check everything top to bottom left to right. 8k hid fail, too loud fail, no cats fail although no smog, and the list goes on. We're also required to undergo "recon", reconstruction inspection if your vehicle has been modified. This mainly focus's on aftermarket parts. Too low fail, too high fail - for alot of us lift trucks for off roading, too stiff fail, too bouncy fail, too big tires fail, etc. And all this is required to get your registration. Registration amount depends on the weight of your vehicle in their system, not what it is now. If you had your car striped for weight reduction, you still would pay the same. I paid close to $400 for a chevy colorado, but in their system my truck weighs 5500 lbs. No f'ing way, not even a full size truck and it weighs that much. Plus we don't have police cruisers, we do but not alot. We have more bikes and personal vehicles. A cop in a 4runner, g35, altima, maxima, 300, mustang, camaro, charger, explorer, even a camry, and car as long as it has 4 doors and no sun roof so they can mount that thin blue light that never seems to work except when you get pulled over. To top that off our speed limit is 55, 58-60 firm...
