What is the difference Between the ipod touch generation's? im looking to buy one/replace my broken nano and im looking on craigslist and i dont know what all these generations and jail broken???? mean???

1st gen has no external speaker, 2nd gen has the external speaker. jail broken means its been hacked to get different free apps that apple doesnt authorize. if you jail break any apple product and it breaks, they will NOT replace it or anything.
