Stock GTO going 180mph?

Default Stock GTO going 180mph?
I have a buddy that claims his Stock 5.7l GTO went 180. Its stock.

I find it very hard to believe that! Considering an F-body can barely go 160 on a good day with bolt ons.

What do you guys think? maybe Speedo error? or is it possible.

If I recall the governor on the car kicks in at 157, so unless he has atleast done a tune I call bs. Even then I don't think stock it can hit 180 unless he has a really really really long open uninterupted stretch of highway.

Yeah I didnt think Mechanically wise its possible. It would run out of gear at around 165ish and hit the rev limiter.

Weird thing is he took a picture of the speedo so Im guessing his speedo is off.

It can't happen, the 2 piece drive shaft will become imbalanced after 157-160 I can't remember the exact mph.

You can not do this or you will die.

when the battery is going bat it will jump your gauges to the max some times right after startup. I bet he took a pictdre of that, or put it on jackstands and did a 6th gear pull in his driveway.

Naw he is not mechanically incline to put it on jack stands and do all that. GTO's have a digital Speedo Readout. So I dont know.

Make sure the speedo says mph and not kph. It takes all of 2 seconds to make the gto's speedo read in kph.

181kph = 112mph deff. possible

Also does he have non-stock rims/wheels? They might have mis-sized them causing the speedo to be off.

It's possible with the stock driveshaft.. But it's not possible with a stock motor.

Umm I went 170 in my camaro when it was pretty much stock. Mind you it got a little help by the downgrade lol.

A lot of people interpret "Stock" Differently..he probably has a Cam, Headers & other **** & is claiming it's stock like some clown in the 2010 Camaro Forum
