Default Going on vacation in Hawaii

The gf and I are planning on going to Hawaii in May, this will be our first time going. Does anyone have any suggestions as to which island is the bet to stay at and what to do? I want to go skydiving and snorkeling, all that awesome stuff. We were looking at hotels by Waikiki because the gf HAS to be able to go shopping lol

I go to Maui every two years and stay there for 2 weeks. I leave on March 20th and come back on April 4th. I've stayed on the big island but much prefer Maui.

In Maui I would do the following:
Road to Hana 1 full day
Day trip to the Island of Lanai (Snorkel, Swim with dolphins, visit the hotel there)
Bicycle down Haleakala or drive up there and take in the view
Shop in Lahaina (for the Women)
Golf at Kaanapali Golf Course or just eat breakfast at the clubhouse
Day snorkel trip to the Molikini crater
Day trip Whale Watching some may still be there
Deap Sea fishing

Lots of other things but I would start with those.

Here's me trying to save my beer in the wave...yup that's me in the wave

I agreee Maui is much nicer and there still is shopping which cracks me up since we have plenty of that here is SOCAL.

Hopefully Hawaii is still there after the Tsunami

I was born and raised on the Big Island of Hawaii. Lived there for 18 years until I graduated high school. The most popular islands are Maui and Oahu.

I agree with what you have listed here.
I love Maui, got married on the beach at Makena Cove.

I thnk Maui has a little more charm than the big island. While hiking on Haleakala several years ago, I slipped down a small cliff and totally ripped up my leg on the volcanic rock, was picking it out of my leg for a week, still have scars from it.

We usually stay at the Ritz-
also, the aquarium is something fun to do for the afternoon.

I've been to Maui 4 times and Oahu once, I like Maui a lot better. Kāʻanapali is the ****! I usually go for 8-10 days during Thanksgiving, it's really chill at that time. I always hit up Hana for the drive and Lahaina for the hoes. Deep sea fishing is really cool too. I'm thinking about going again this year.

just got back from oahu on the 22, and the traffic and the beach was crap!!
it's just like LA.

i was staying by wakiki beach and working on north shore, the drive everyday was nuts. and when i went to the beach on the weekend, it was "packed" with tourists.

i spent a month on maui working, and it's 100% nicer and more relaxed (a.k.a. island time bra)

if your taking the wife? go to maui instead! and as stated, do the road to hana (rent a jeep) she will love the drive and waterfalls. then take her to lahaina, there is all kinds of shops and food for here to check out. then take her to big beach, just watch out for little beach! unless she's one of thoses free spirit types?
