Cali emission question. Im about to transfer to a base in cali but im having my car registered in Nebraska. Do i still have to do emission tests and the visual check or are no checks required since its registered our of state.
Years ago if you wanted a base sticker for your car you had to pass CA smog. That was my experience at Navy bases in California back in 2002. If you have no need to drive your car onto the base then don't worry about it.
Of course, this may have changed in recent years but I doubt it.

The great thing about being in the military is you can choose the state you hold residance and the state you live in cant make you change. Now i do have a base sticker good untill early 2013 but it does have a MCBH Hawaii sticker under it. I should be fine.... I think. If not im willing to bet you can get around the emission laws just like the recon laws in Hawaii..... I think.
I work with a few dudes that have out of state plates and they were able to get base decals. And their vehicles wont pass a ca visual inspection. As long as nebraska says you are good you shouldnt have any problems.
