Default CA Emissions??

Do you need to have your EGR working to pass smog?

If it's throwing a code, that's an automatic fail. If it's not working correctly but no code, your NOx will be high, but you could still possibly pass. I doubt it though, CA doesn't allow much NOx.

If its installed on your year, and is removed, you will fail. They check for each thing the car is supposed to have. You can't even get away with saying its a dealer installed 01-02 motor because they will require proof.

I am throwing an intermittent SES light with an EGR code to blame. When the SES light is off, the EGR code is stored. When getting smogged, will I fail it with a stored EGR code, even though the light isn't on?

They hook it up to the computer and it will show up as a pd(pending) code. I believe it will then be an automatic fail.
