Default NO oil pressure????

Yesterday I started my car and my oil pressure was at zero! Then after 5 seconds it went up to about 40. Today I go and start it up and again I have zero pressure and this time it won't go up at all. It gave me change oil light already but have been ignoring it for a week. Could this be my problem or you guys think that my oil pump is going out?

Help please. And thanks

Could be a pressure sensor failure. You could have somebody peek through the oil fill hole with a flash light to see if oil is squirting out of the rockers.

well the less you turn it over the better, next time if pressure does not come up within 5 seconds (which is a long time actually) shut the engine off immediately. Sounds like you have a failure somewhere the last thing you want to do is spin a bearing if you have not already.

My be dumb of me to ask vut have you checked something as simple as your oil level? You said you have been neglecting the oil change light.

How many miles on the motor? problem with an oil pump taking a dive is that it is so crucial that it usually requires more extensive repairs than just remove and replace.

How hard would it be? I have all the tools required. Also I did check it and it's good.

Could just be the oil pump... but its kind of odd that it would just go out. Have you dont any mods recently? IE cam?

As asked earlier, how many miles on the car? Original oil pump?

If it was me, I would make sure it wasnt getting pressure & that the oil sender was accurate. Then i would replace the pump & the o-ring on the pump. Its a PITA to do, because you have to loosen the oil pan so it can drop a little. Make sure you have a pen magnet too as im sure you will drop the bolt to the oil pump. If you do that take some pictures of the inside of the oil pump and post them. Im wondering if its not all scared up inside. Also check the status of the oil o-ring that goes into the pump... maybe its not sealing?

Keep us posted.
